TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State track and field team wrapped up the second day of action at the 2003 Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe Saturday with four events being won by Sun Devils. In addition, 15 ASU student-athletes earned marks that qualified them for either the NCAA west regional and/or the Pac-10 Championships at the end of the season.

With the women having a solid day yesterday, the men took their turn in the spotlight as four of the first place finishes were recorded by the men. The day opened with the 4x100m relay team taking the event in 40.64 to earn a spot in the regional and conference meets at the end of the year. Also winning for the men was Anthony Santa Cruz in the 800m (1:52.85) and Lewis Banda in the 200m (21.20). The lone female winner was Tiffany Greer in the 100m dash (11.91). Barton, Greer and Banda each qualified for the two tournaments at the end of the year.

Also qualifying for the regional meet for the men were Steve Fitch in the 400m (46.87), Seth Amoo in the 200m (21.40) and Vince Mosca (51.50) and Travis Jones (50.30) in the discus. Fitch, Amoo and Mosca also will represent ASU at the Pac-10 meet.

On the women's side, Porchea Carroll in the 100m dash (11.99) and a trio of ladies in the discus, Sandra Orsund (51.68), Julia Pedersen (48.44) and Molly Clarke (47.06), all will go to both meets at the end of the year. Joining them at the Pac-10 meet will by Carroll in the 200m (24.46), Cassandra Reed in the 200m (24.46) and Joni Smith in the 400m (55.11).

In all, the men had five wins over the weekend with the women registering eight. The men also took second once and third four times while the women went five and two, respectively.

The Sun Devils return to action at home again next weekend when they play host to the 2003 Arizona State Invitational. Teams scheduled to compete are ASU, Northern Arizona, Ohio State, Kansas State and Oregon.
