AUSTIN, Texas. - At the Texas Invitational on Friday, Arizona State junior All-American swimmer ?gnes Kov?cs won her second event in as many days, claiming victory in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:10.05, nearly a second ahead of her nearest rival.
The time converts to a short course yards equivalent of 1:01.64, marking the third time in this event this year that Kov?cs has logged a NCAA automatic qualifying standard. She finished second in the morning preliminary session, conducted in short course yards, with a time of 1:02.22.
Senior All-American Petra Banovic finished fourth in the 200m freestyle after touching the wall in 2:03.82. Banovic, the school record holder in the 200 free, recorded a season best time during the morning session in short course yards with a 1:48.38, a time which ranks her in the top-15 nationally according to the latest Taper & Shave College Quick 50, and is a NCAA consideration standard.
Kov?cs and Banovic were the only Sun Devils to compete in Friday's final session. Several other ASU swimmers competed in the morning session including senior All-American Ahmed Hussein, sophomore All-American Tom Hickman and freshman Abra Armour. Hussein notched a time of 48.09 in the 100 backstroke, which places him sixth in the nation and gives him a NCAA consideration time.
Hickman clocked a season best in the 200 freestyle with a 1:42.58 while Armour set career bests in both the 200 freestyle (1:51.51) and the 100 back (58.85).
Action concludes tomorrow at the Texas Invitational which is an unscored event this year. The morning preliminary sessions are held in short course yards while the evening's finals are in long course meters.
