TEMPE, Ariz. -- The No. 13 Arizona State Men's Swimming & Diving team fell to the third-ranked California Golden Bears this afternoon 178.50 to 121.50 at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Sun Devil men are now 4-3 on the year and 0-2 in the Pac-10. Joona Puhakka led the way for ASU, with two first-place finishes in the diving pool.

Puhakka and Thomas McCrummen finished first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. On the 1-meter, Puhakka scored a 354.98 with McCrummen notching a 330.00 to barely edge out Cal's Nic Bartolotta at 329.43. On the 3-meter, Puhakka scored a 368.63 to McCrummen's 354.68.

The swimmers had Christian Harcsas (1:46.31) and Ahmed Hussein (1:49.67) finish 1-2 in the 200 back, David Kolozar finish first in the 200 fly (1:47.44) and Nick Brunelli grab first in the 200 free (1:37.57). Second-place finishes went to David Kolozar in the 1000 free (9:27.05) and 500 free (4:34.64), Ahmed Hussein in the 100 back (49.49), Bobby Zaabadich in the 50 free (20.23), Nick Brunelli in the 100 free (44.46), and Leonardo Martins in the 200 breast (2:03.19).

The men will be in action again tomorrow, January 25, as they play host to the No. 1 Stanford Cardinal at 2 p.m. at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The men's meet follows the women's meet, who swim against Stanford at noon.
