TEMPE, Ariz. -- The No. 3 ranked Arizona State University women's gymnastics team improved its record to 10-4, defeating University of Kentucky, 198.275-193.475, in front of 865 fans at Wells Fargo Arena Friday. ASU's team total is the best team score in school history. Ashley Kelley registered two perfect 10.0 marks on the evening to help her register the highest individual all-around total in school history with a 39.875.
Kelly's all-around total breaks the previous school record of 39.775 set by Maggie Germaine against UCLA. Ashley Ellsberry recorded a career-high in all-around with a 39.675.
The Sun Devils added to their spectacular season so far by setting a team record in vault with a 49.650. This topped the 49.600 that the squad set only two weeks ago versus Boise State. Kelly took top honors with a perfect score of 10.0. This bested her previous career high of 9.90. Cassidy Vreeke scored a 9.95 on the vault to take second place for ASU and tie her career high. There were six athletes tied with a 9.900 in third position, three for each school. ASU's Carla DeMartini, Ashley Ellsberry and Maggie Germaine scored 9.900 while Julia Gore, Aronda Primault, and Melanie Zaharias represented Kentucky in that group. Ellsberry's score was a career high in her last home meet as a Sun Devil.
In the second event of the evening, Ashley Kelley continued her outstanding performance by tallying her second perfect 10.0 of the meet with her effort on bars. This routine only helped the Sun Devil squad attain their second school record in as many events, as the team total of 49.500 bettered the previous best of 49.475 set earlier this year against Arizona. Taking second in the event was Kari Muth of ASU with a 9.90. There were three competitors tied for third with scores of 9.875. Margaret Wojciak and Amber Giorgianni scored 9.875 for Arizona State and Julia Gore did the same for the Wildcats. That represents a career high for Giorgianni.
The Sun Devils recorded a team total of 49.400 on beam to grab the team win. Ashley Ellsberry led the ASU win on beam with a 9.975 in the Sun Devils' final routine to take the victory. Ashley Kelly and Maggie Germaine tied for second after scoring a pair of 9.925s.
The team win on floor also went to ASU with a total of 49.725, yet another school record. Maggie Germaine took individual top honors with a 9.975. Ellsberry and Kelly tied for second with a pair of 9.950s. That tied Kelly's career high.
Next up for Arizona State are the Pac-10 Championships Saturday, March 29 in Los Angeles, Calif. UCLA will serve as host for the meet at Pauley Pavilion.
