AUSTIN, Texas -- The No. 14 Arizona State Women's Swimming & Diving team completed their first day of competition this evening at the Jamail Texas Swim Center trailing host No. 8 Texas 108-58 and No. 5 Southern Methodist 118-48. Diver Trisha Tumlinson set a school record on the 1-meter springboard and ?gnes Kov?cs dominated the field in the 200 breast, as each earned first-place finishes for ASU.
Tumlinson broke her own school record on the 1-meter springboard yet again, setting a new mark at 300.25, 3.55 points better than her previous best. Jessica Stenson (252.85) finished seventh and Nicole Zukowski (224.90) finished twelfth for ASU, each recording season bests.
In the swimming pool, ?gnes Kov?cs recorded a win in the 200 breast in commanding fashion (2:12.60), beating her nearest competitor by nearly two-and-a-half seconds. Petra Banovic notched an NCAA "B" consideration time in the 400 IM in her first attempt at this race as a Sun Devil. Her 4:21.97 placed her third.
Banovic placed fourth in the 500 free (4:56.85), with Sandra Steffensen (4:57.96) fifth and Kathryn Hennessy (5:00.59) sixth for Arizona State. In the 100 fly, Florence Mauro registered her season-best time with a 57.31, placing her seventh.
The finishing order places listed above for ASU are overall finishes between Texas, SMU and ASU. Arizona State's points are tabulated as two separate dual meets with Texas and SMU. Arizona is also at the meet but does not score against the Sun Devils. Competition tomorrow begins at noon CST.
