TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona State's Yolanda Meservey, Sandra Orsund and Julia Pedersen swept the top three places in the women's shot put, leading the Sun Devil track and field contingent in the first day of the Willie Williams Classic at the University of Arizona's Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., Friday.

Each member of the ASU trio notched Pac-10 qualifying marks, led by Meservey's first-place personal best effort of 14.46 meters. With a personal-best of her own, Orsund was the runner-up with a mark of 14.04 meters, followed by Pedersen's effort of 13.61 meters in her collegiate shot put debut.

In the men's javelin, ASU throwers finished two-three, with Mike Rivers' second-place effort of 59.24 meters followed by Bobby Raines' 57.54m. The Sun Devils also had two of the top four finishers in the men's 400m hurdles in Eric Bailey (54.29) and John Cylkowski (56.97).

Also competing for ASU today, Pete Lopez finished third in the men's 200m (21.52), while Vince Mosca placed fifth in the men's shot put (16.76m).

The Willie Williams Classic wraps up tomorrow with field events beginning at noon, followed by running events at 12:30 p.m.
