AMES, Iowa - Junior All-American Fasil Bizuneh clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying time and indoor personal best to place ninth in the men's 5,000m, while junior Brianna Torres notched a fourth-place finish in the women's 5,000m, leading Arizona State indoor track and field in the first day of competition at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, Friday.

Bizuneh's time of 14:13.89 in the 5,000m also eclipsed his previous indoor school record time of 14:16.07 set in 2000. His outdoor personal best in the event is 14:04.20, also established in 2000.

Torres crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 17:03.53, the highest finisher not to turn in an NCAA provisional qualifying effort. Also competing in the women's 5,000m, sophomore Jen Hurbis clocked in at 17:56.55, placing 16th behind Torres. Missing an NCAA provisional time by just three seconds was the Sun Devil men's distance medley relay team that finished eighth in 9:48.20.
