TEMPE, Ariz. - Freshmen Manya Makoski and Elizabeth Bogus teamed up for two second half goals to lead the Arizona State soccer team (10-3-2; 3-2 Pac-10) to a 2-1 victory over the University of Oregon (2-11-2; 1-4-1 Pac-10) today in Eugene, Oregon. Bogus' tally in the 57th minute sealed the win for the Devils and gave Bogus her seventh game-winner of the year, tying former three-time All-American Stacey Tullock for the single-season best in ASU history.
Each team held the other scoreless for the first half, but Arizona State's Makoski broke through in the 50th minute of play in the second half. Makoski took a feed from Bogus and lofted the ball from 17 yards out, left center over the Oregon goalkeeper. Bogus tacked on her team-leading ninth goal and eventual game-winner seven minutes later when she took the pass from Makoski and shot the ball from 19 yards out that bounced off the right post for the 2-0 advantage.
Oregon would cut the lead to 2-1 late in the match. In the 82nd minute, Katie Abrahamson headed the ball in from 5 yards out. But that was all the scoring that would happen as the Devils completed the weekend sweep of the Oregon schools.
Up next, The Devils close out their home regular season, hosting Washington State on Friday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. and Washington on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
