TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's soccer team (8-2-2: 1-1 Pac-10) took a tough loss to the 19th-ranked USC Trojans (7-4-3: 2-1 Pac-10) 2-1 in double overtime on Friday night at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. USC forward Jessica Edwards managed to put the ball in the net after a tangle with the ASU defense and goalkeeper with only 15 seconds remaining in the match.
The game started well for the Sun Devils as Patrice Feulner put ASU on the board with her first goal of the year off of an assist from Stephanie Ebner in the 17th minute. Ebner found Feulner in the penalty area where she took the pass and lobbed it over USC goalie Julie Peterson and into the corner to get the home team on the board.
Ten minutes later, Elizabeth Bogus almost put the Sun Devils up by two on a quick run through the Trojan defense but saw her shot rebound off the far post and out for a goal kick.
The Trojans tied up the game in the 38th minute as Ashley Casas scored her first goal of the season off of a cross from Ali Fennell. That's the way the first half ended and the teams went to the locker rooms with ASU holding a slight advantage in shots 8-6.
The second half saw many opportunities for the Sun Devils and Manya Makoski came within inches of providing ASU with a winner three times. Makoski created many scoring chances for herself and had 10 total shots in the game, three of which barely slid by Peterson's right post.
ASU goalie Kelly Fitzgerald made 10 saves on the night to Peterson's eight. ASU will be back at home on Sunday to face the seventh-ranked UCLA Bruins at 11:00 a.m
