TEMPE, Ariz. - Behind two Patrice Feulner goals and a late score by All-American Stacey Tullock, the Arizona State soccer team (4-1) downed Mississippi (2-4), 3-1, tonight at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. In a tight and rough match in which 30 combined fouls were issued, the Sun Devils sealed the game when Tullock tallied her sole goal of the game at the 89:30 mark.
ASU wasted little time getting on the board as Feulner netted her first goal of the night at the 7:01 mark. Feulner got a rebound back off of a scramble in front of the net and shot the ball into the open goal from 5-yards out. Amy LePeilbet was credited with the assist.
However, in the 16th minute, Ole Miss tied the score at one apiece when Erin Edmundson scored on a header off of a corner kick from Lindley Beckman.
The spectacular game-winning goal came in the 64th minute by Feulner, her seventh goal of the year and third game-winner. After Antoinette Marjanovic dribbled the ball down the sideline, Feulner broke for the box and slid head first into the ball, knocking it pass the Ole Miss goalie.
Ole Miss would make several more charges, but he Sun Devil defense and goalkeeper Kristin Slater held tight to post the victory.
Up next, Arizona State will host Pepperdine on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
