Arizona State led by as many as seven in the first half, but Delaware State got within three points when Terrelle Waller hit a jumper to make it 23-20 with 1:39 left in the half. The Sun Devils, however, scored the final four points of the first half to take a 27-20 halftime lead. The Hornets outshot the Sun Devils 45 to 30.3 percent in the first half, but ASU won the battle of the boards 26-15 and kept Delaware State from getting any offensive rebounds.
The Hornets (0-2) were held scoreless for the first 4:19 of the second half and the Sun Devils went up by as many as 20 points before Terrana Pyfrom scored two consecutive baskets. Delaware State got within 42-32 with 9:32 left in the game but did not get any closer. The Sun Devils did not allow the Hornets back in the game, despite shooting only 29.5 percent from the field, compared to Delaware State's 41.3 percent.
Levens led the game with 19 points, while senior Cian Carvalho had nine points and a game-high six steals. Sophomore Betsy Boardman had eight points, nine rebounds and four steals, while freshman Alexis Tate had six rebounds in just seven minutes of action. Waller was the Hornets' leading scorer with 13 points.
Arizona State, now 2-0 on the year, returns to action Wednesday night with Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena. The Sun Devils then head to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the 2001 Paradise Jam Nov. 24-26.
