Jeff Krohn Continues Torrid 2001 Season: Sophomore starting quarterback Jeff Krohn had another solid game for ASU... Krohn finished 12-of-23 for 290 yards and four TD's... he became the fastest player in ASU history to pass for 1,000 yards in a season (3.5 games, 1,032 in 2nd quarter)... with his four TD strikes, Krohn recorded his sixth career multi-TD game and the fourth in 2001... He now has 15 TD's in 2001... his 45-yarder in the first quarter to McDonald marked his 12th TD pass of 2001, equaling his entire 2000 total... six of his 14 TD passes have been for over 40 yards... Krohn is now 71-for-117 on the year for 1,156 yards and 15 touchdowns.
A Game For the Annals For Shaun McDonald: Sophomore Shaun McDonald (Phoenix, Ariz.) had a career night, hauling in five catches, four TD receptions and 154 total yards... he now has seven (7) TD's in 2001 and eight in his career... 4-of-7 TD's this year have been over 40 yards... became third receiver on Sun Devil squad this year with a multi-touchdown game... his TD receptions were of 45, 57 and two 19-yarders... he set career highs for a complete game in only the first half of play, totaling five receptions, 154 yards and four touchdowns... McDonald came into tonight's game with only five receptions on the year... his 30.8 average per catch fell just short of a school record for average yards per catch in the five (5) catch category... the school record is 31.0 yards per catch (155 yards) by Larry Mucker vs. Idaho in 1975... his four (4) TD catches ties a school record held by John Allen (San Jose State, 1953)... his four TD's overall is ranked second in school history, accomplished 14 other times, last by Ryan Dennard last weekend vs. San Jose State.
The Last Time With Five Rushing TD's In A Game: With only two rushing TD's entering tonight's game, the ASU ground attack busted out for its most productive game of the season with five rushing TD's (Williams - 2, Pace - 2, McKinney - 1)... the last time ASU had five (5) rushing TD's in a game was in a 52-15 win over Oregon (11/15/97).
The Most Points By ASU Since... The 63 points by the Sun Devils is the most by ASU since a 62-36 win over Stanford on Oct. 24, 1981... ASU's last games over 50 points were the 53-25 win over San Jose State last weekend, the 55-56 (2 OT) loss to Oregon last year (10/28/00) and a 56-14 defeat of rival Arizona in 1996.
The First Half Totals: In what proved to be a wild and wacky first half, ASU came out hot scoring 34 points to open the game... QB Jeff Krohn was 8-for-16 for 250 yards (31.25 avg. per completion) and Shaun McDonald set career records for touchdowns, yards receiving and catches all in the first two quarters... McDonald hauled in five passes for 154 yards (30.8 avg.) with four touchdowns... ASU combined for 288 total offensive yards, while trailing ULL in time of possession (17:41 to 12.19).
Sun Devil Notes: The rushing TD (5 yards) by sophomore tailback Mike Williams (Lakewood, Calif.) in the second quarter was his first of the year... he added a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter for his second career multi-TD game and the seventh overall TD of his career... it was only the third rushing TD of the year by the Sun Devils... junior place kicker Mike Barth connected on his first four PAT's, but missed one in the 2nd quarter to end his consecutive steak of made PAT's at 38... After scoring four TD's last weekend vs. San Jose State, senior wide receiver Ryan Dennard hauled in two (2) catches for 92 yards, including a 62-yarder from Krohn in the second quarter... over his last two games, Dennard has caught six (6) passes for 134 yards and three TD's... Darryl Lightfoot's 41-yard run in the third quarter was the longest run from scrimmage for the Devils this year... the previous long was 21 yards by Delvon Flowers in the San Jose State game... senior running back Tom Pace had a solid game, tallying a team-high 77 rushing yards on nine (9) carries (8.6 avg.)... Pace totaled 48 of his yards on a scoring drive late in the third quarter... moving closer to his season goal of 20 sacks, sophomore defensive end Terrell Suggs (Chandler, Ariz.) recorded two sacks and a team-high 10 tackles (four TFL's)... Suggs now has 21 tackles, six sacks and 10 TLF's (-39 yards) in 2001.
Louisiana-Lafayette Notes: Senior free safety Kyries Hebert recorded 11 (3 solo, 8 assisted) tackles in the game, giving him 238 on the year... he is now just five (5) tackles short of second place in the ULL record books behind Damon Mason's (1994-96) 243 total tackles... junior kicker Jonathon Knott was a busy man Saturday night, handling all kicking duties for the Ragin' Cajuns... Knott hit on a career-long 48-yarder in the first quarter... his previous season and career long as a 45-yarder in the 2001 opener vs. Nicholls State (20-0 win, 9/01/01)... Knott also connected on a 45-yarder in the third quarter... Knott, a transfer from NE Oklahoma A&M, also punted eight times (35.6 avg.)... the 38-yard reception by sophomore wide receiver Fred Stamps was a season and career long... his previous high was 30 yards this year... the 17 first half points by the Ragin' Cajuns nearly equaled their season high in points for a game (20 vs. Nicholls State) this year... Marcus Wilridge's 37-yard kick-off return with 10:34 left in the third quarter was a season-long for the Ragin' Cajuns.
