TEMPE, Ariz. - The 23rd-ranked Arizona State soccer team (2-1) suffered its first loss of the season as the Utah Utes (2-1) blanked the Sun Devils, 1-0 in Salt Lake City.
In a defensive struggle, the teams battled back and forth down the field, giving up a limited amount of shots. Arizona State posted 10 shots to Utah's six. The sole goal of the game was scored by Utah's Katie Tate just over 29 minutes into the first half.
Utah's Courtney Hills had four saves and won the decision at the goalkeeper position. Kristin Slater had three saves in the losing effort for the Sun Devils. Stephanie Peel and Patrice Feulner led ASU with three shots apiece.
Up next, Arizona State will open its home slate on Sunday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m. against New Mexico.
