TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Shawn Redhage scored 18 points and Donnell Knight had 16 to lead Arizona State to a 59-42 victory over Mercer Wednesday night.
Knight was effective from long range, going 4-of-7 from 3-point range on a night when Arizona State (6-2) shot just 30 percent from the field. Knight is 10-of-23 (.435) from the three-point stripe on the year after shooting 10-of-31 (.322) all of last season.
Redhage did his damage at the free throw line, hitting all nine of his attempts. Awvee Storey added 10 points for the Sun Devils.
Mercer (5-4) also struggled shooting, making 35 percent of its field goals. Scott Emerson led the Bears with 16 points and Rodney Kirtz had 15.
Arizona State used a 10-point run midway through the half to build a 26-21 lead at intermission. ASU shot just 9-of-31 (.290) from the field in the first half but held Mercer to 7-of-21 (.333).
Sophomore Kyle Dodd, a 6-0 point guard, posted two dunks in the game, the first in his career.
A 14-4 run with 18:44 remaining in the game sealed the victory for the Sun Devils. Redhage scored seven of his points in that spurt.
Besides its shooting woes, Mercer also had trouble taking care of the ball, committing 28 turnovers.
The 42 points is the lowest given up by an Arizona State team since a 53-41 win over Washington on Jan. 31, 1991, a span of 293 games.
