CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Arizona State Sun Devil volleyball team had their 10-game road winning streak come to an end Saturday evening with a 3-1 loss to the Oregon State Beavers at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore.
The Sun Devils dropped to 12-5 on the season and are now tied with the Beavers at 4-3 in Pac-10 play. ASU entered play Saturday night with a perfect 10-0 record on the road. The Beavers are also 12-5 in 2000. OSU won the match by scores of 11-15, 15-11, 15-12, 15-12.
Burbridge (Scottsdale, Ariz.) recorded a team-high 22 kills to lead the Sun Devils. She has now recorded 20 or more kills in nine matches and with 12 digs vs. OSU now has 13 double-doubles. Senior middle blocker Michelle Mortensen (Chandler, Ariz.) had 19 kills and seven block assists to contribute a solid match.
The Beavers were touch down the stretch after dropping the first game 15-11. ASU came out hot by hitting .450 in the first game, but dropped the last three games to record their first loss in Corvallis since 1996. In the last two matches, the Sun Devils hit .217 and .082 respectively.
Outside hitter Gina Schmidt led the Beavers with a match-high 24 kills and added 20 digs to lead OSU to the victory. The Beavers out-hit (.276-.200) and out-blocked (13.0-9.0) the Sun Devils.
Arizona State will return to action by hosting USC and UCLA next Thursday and Friday at Wells Fargo Arena. Friday's game vs. UCLA will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net.
