TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State women's gymnastics team recorded its second consecutive 195-plus score Sunday afternoon in Seattle, Wash., but finished second behind host Washington before a crowd of 775. The Huskies came from behind in the final rotation to post a season-high 195.550, ahead of the Sun Devils (195.100) and Seattle Pacific (189.950) at UW's Pavillion Addition.
ASU (8-2) used a season-high balance beam score of 49.050 to help establish its early lead. Senior All-American Elizabeth Reid equaled her 9.925 mark from a week ago to claim top honors in the exercise, while freshman Margaret Wojciak notched her third consecutive bar score above 9.8 at 9.825 to place fourth. Arizona State senior Elizabeth McNabb notched a victory on the balance beam (9.9) and also helped her team's effort with a 9.875, third place performance in the floor exercise.
The Devils held a three-tenths advantage heading into their last rotation on the vault, where they recorded a team score of 48.500, including Kelly Christensen-Cowley's third place mark of 9.8. The junior All-American also recorded a 9.8 on the bars (sixth place) and tied junior teammate Kristin Fanning for fourth on the floor at 9.825.
However, Washington used a season-best performance of 49.250 on floor to snap a three-meet losing streak and raise its record to 3-3. Senior Tiffany Simpson led the Husky charge on floor with a 9.95, first place performance, and also took top honors in the all-around at 39.325.
SPU's top finisher was Callie Field with a 9.8, sixth place showing on floor.
Arizona State returns to Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, Feb. 18 for the Uno's Classic featuring #1 Alabama, fourth-ranked Utah and #12 Minnesota beginning at 7:00 p.m.
