TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Men's swimming and diving will play host to Minnesota Saturday with competition beginning at 12 p.m. MST at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The men are coming off a loss from a two-day meet to No. 15 Purdue.
The Sun Devils competed well against Purdue with sophomores C.J. Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.) and Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) having a big weekend. On the first day of competition, Nuess won the 200-yard IM and took second place in both the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly. Nuess also captured first place in the 400-yard IM on the second day. Azevedo won the 500-yard freestyle on the first day and recorded a season-best time of 9:10.05 on the second day in the 1,000-yard freestyle to take first place.
The next competition for the women will be a Pac-10 meet at California Jan. 20 where the men will also compete. After that, the Sun Devils compete at Stanford Jan. 21 and come home to host Arizona Feb. 11 for the last regular season meet of the season.
