Kov?cs Places Fourth In 200 IM At European Championships

MADRID, Spain. - Arizona State junior swimmer ?gnes Kov?cs placed fourth in the 200 IM while swimming for her native Hungary at the 2004 European Championships being held at the M-86 Center. The 13-time All-American clocked a 2:16.11 in the finals on Thursday to finish just shy of claiming the bronze.

Kov?cs recorded a 2:17.48 in Wednesday's preliminaries and a 2:16.17 in the semifinals to come into today's event as the number two seed. She is slated to compete on Friday morning in the third of four heats in the prelims of the 200 breaststroke. She has the second fastest seed time in a field of 28 swimmers with a 2:28.18. Kov?cs is the European Championships (2:24.90) and the overall European (2:24.03) record holder in the event.
