TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University senior diver Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland) was named Pac-10 Diver of the Month for October, the Pac-10 announced today. It was ASU's first Pac-10 Diver of the Month of all-time.
ASU's first meet of the season was at Hawai'i on Oct. 21, where Puhakka scored a 361.05 in the one-meter diving event and a 387.00 on the three-meter springboard. After that, ASU competed at UNLV where Puhakka scored a 359.25 in the one-meter springboard and a 400.13 in the three-meter. Puhakka swept all of the events he competed in during October.
Puhakka is a four-time NCAA champion including individual titles on the one-meter springboard in 2003 and 2005 and the three-meter springboard in 2004 and 2005. He was also the 2005 NCAA National Diver of the Year, Pac-10 Diver of the Year for three consecutive years and a six-time Pac-10 champion.
ASU diving is competing at the Buckeye Swimming and Diving Invitational starting today and continuing through Saturday. Sun Devil swimming is at the Texas Invitational that started today and competition continues through Saturday as well.
