Four Sun Devils Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors

May 26, 2006

Walnut Creek, Calif. - Four Sun Devils were selected to the 2006 Pac-10 All-Academic teams, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Junior Rebecca Rankin earned first-team All-Academic honors while Kady Pooler was named to the second team. Jessica Leitch and Wendy Pilecka also received honorable mention for the Sun Devils.

In Coach McInerney's tenure at ASU, the Sun Devils have now earned 41 Conference All-Academic Honors. This was the second career selection for both Rankin and Pooler and the first selection for Pilecka and Leitch. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.

Rankin, a kinesiology major from Purley, England, earned a 3.81 GPA, highest on the team, and started in the fourth flight for the Sun Devils. She joined Roxanne Clarke this season as one of only four Sun Devils to join the 20-20 club, racking up both 20 singles and 20 doubles victories in the same season. Pooler, a Management/Marketing major from Laguna Niguel, Calif., earned a 3.28 GPA. Pooler will compete with doubles partner Clarke in the NCAA Doubles championship tournament this weekend.
