Former ASU Swimmer Earns Post-Graduate Scholarship

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Former Arizona State University swimmer Emerson Ward (Phoenix, Ariz.) has been honored with the Cooper Tires/Pac-10 Leadership Award. The award is a $1,500 post-graduate scholarship given to one male and one female student-athlete each year.

The winners of the award are selected by the Pac-10 Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) that has representatives from each member institution. Nominees must be enrolled in, or plan to attend graduate school. Also, nominees must have been a letterwinner in a varsity sport and have served at least two years on the campus SAAC. Other factors taken into account include community service, grade point average, service as a SAAC officer and level of athletic achievement.

Ward is currently working for Core Construction in Phoenix as a project engineer. With a B.S. in construction management from ASU, Ward plans to attend law school and pursue a career in construction litigation.

In 2005, Ward set the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. He began swimming for ASU in the 2001-02 season.
