Former ASU Swimmer Bobby Zaabadick Selected To US Team For World Cup In Korea

Oct. 9, 2003

TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Arizona State swimmer Bobby Zaabadick has been selected by USA Swimming to represent the United States at the FINA Swimming World Cup November 24-25 in Daejon, Korea. Zaabadick, a senior for the Sun Devils last year, was chosen for the meet due to his second-place finish in the 50m freestyle this summer at the US National Championships and his world ranking.

In August at the USA Swimming ConocoPhillips Summer National Championships in College Park, Md., Zaabadick earned the highest finish of his career when he took home the silver medal in the 50m free after touching the wall in 22.81, second only to three-time national champion Neil Walker. His time ranks him 34th in the world and fifth among all Americans. The fastest time in the world last year was by Alexander Popov of Russia with a 21.92.

Zaabadick has also qualified for the US Olympic Trials and was named a USA Swimming 2003 All-American. The All-America Team is comprised of swimmers who equaled or bettered the faster of the eighth place times from either the Spring or Summer 2002 ConocoPhillips National Championships while competing in the Spring or Summer 2003 ConocoPhillips National Championships.
