LONDON, Ontario—Sophomore diver Riley McCormick qualified to compete in the finals in the men’s 3-meter springboard and in the men’s open platform at the 2011 Canadian Winter Senior National Championships held in London, Ontario.
The Pac-10 Champion took the top spot in the men’s open platform semifinals on Friday, scoring a total of 431.75. McCormick also placed fifth out of 29 divers in the 3-meter springboards, earning a trip to the finals on Saturday.
The Canadian national is listed as a “diver to watch” on the Canadian National Diving website. In both 2009 and 2010, McCormick won the gold medal in the open platform at the previous Canadian Winter National Championships.
In 2008, McCormick represented Canada at the Beijing Olympic games, finishing 16th overall in the platform event.
The finals for the 3-meter springboard will be held Saturday, while McCormick will look for a third-consecutive gold medal in the men’s platform finals concluding on Sunday.
