Arizona State Baseball to Host Alumni this Weekend

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The nationally-ranked Arizona State baseball team will host a team comprised of ASU alumni on Sunday, January 18 at 1 p.m. at Packard Stadium.

The Sun Devils will also be retiring the number of former ASU standout Larry Gura (No. 14) in a pre-game ceremony. Gura, who played for Arizona State from 1967-69, compiled a 25-6 record as a lefthanded pitcher for the Devils. A 1969 first-team All-American, Gura's career ERA of 1.57 ranks among the best all-time at ASU. He was a member of the 1969 National Championship team.

Some former Arizona State players in attendance will be Dan McKinley, Robbie Kent, Jaymie Bane, Jason Bond, Todd Steverson, Jason Verdugo, Mike Scialo and Paul LoDuca. Former ASU pitcher Blas Minor will act as manager of the alumni team.

Ticket prices for the alumni game are $7 for reserved field level seats, $5 general admission (adult) and $4 general admission (seniors and juniors). ASU students are admitted free with a validated student I.D. Call the Arizona State ticket office at 965-2381 for more information.

The Sun Devils will also have their annual preseason banquet on Saturday, January 17 at The Buttes. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 7:30 p.m. Craig Counsell of the World Champion Florida Marlins will be the guest speaker.
