TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State senior swimmer Scott VonSchoff will represent the Sun Devils at the World University Games, July 22-29 in Fukuoka, Japan.
VonSchoff finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle at this year's NCAA Championships, swimming the ninth-fastest time in ASU history at 1:36.34. At the 2001 Pac-10 Conference Championships, VonSchoff finished 10th in the 200y free and eighth in the 100y free.
During his four-year tenure at ASU, VonSchoff was a member of some of ASU's most successful relay teams. In 2000, VonSchoff anchored an 800y free relay team (6:24.73) and 400y medley relay team (3:14.18) to school records. He also swam on a 400y free relay team that set a school record (2:54.03) in 1998.
He is currently slated to compete in the 400-meter free and the 800m free relay.

ASU freshman swimmer Brooke Townsend of Sydney, Australia, was voted the Open Water Swimmer of the Year by Australian Swimming. At the Open Water World Championships in Hawaii last October, Townsend finished fourth in the 10-kilometer and fifth in the 5k.
At this year's Pac-10 Championships, Townsend finished fourth in the 500y free, sixth in the 1650y free and ninth in the 200y free.

ASU's women's swimming team was honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their outstanding achievement in the classroom. With a team GPA of 3.06, ASU made the CSCAA's Academic All-American Award team list.
