The Polls

The CSCAA released its first poll of the season on October 25 and both the Sun Devil men and women sit at #11. For the complete poll, visit www.cscaa.org or www.thesundevils.com and click on the swimming page link.

Puhakka Sets School Record

Freshman diver Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland) had a fantastic debut as a Sun Devil on October 25, by earning NCAA qualifying scores on the 1- and 3-meter springboard and setting a school record in the 3-meter (387.90). Puhakka finished third in the 1-meter at the 2000 European Championships and competed in the 2000 Olympics for Finland.

ASU vs. Wisconsin

The Sun Devils will face the Badgers after last seeing each other on November 2 of last year, also in Tucson. The ASU men won their dual 170-120 while the women prevailed 179.5-120.5.

ASU vs. Auburn (men)

The ASU men last matched up in dual action with Auburn on January 7, 2001 at the James E. Martin Center in Auburn, Ala. The Tigers came away with a 128-115 victory.

Kov?cs Off To Strong Start

Through two intrasquad meets and a double dual thus far this season, sophomore ?gnes Kov?cs has already clocked one NCAA "A" qualifying time and one "B" time during the young campaign. She has recorded a 1:03.06 in the 100 breast ("B" standard) and a 2:13.76 in the 200 breast ("A" standard) to get her season off to a quick start after a second-place finish at last year's NCAAs in the 200 breast and a Pac-10 Championship in that same event.

ASU, Last Time In The Pool

Last Saturday, October 25, the Sun Devils got a clean sweep as they hosted UNLV (men & women) and NAU (women) at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The men soundly defeated the Rebels 216-82 while the women were victorious over UNLV 189-108 and NAU 228-70. For the men's swimmers, senior All-American Christian Harcsas recorded three first-place finishes and freshman David Kolozar and junior All-American Nick Brunelli earned two apiece. The women's swimmers had senior All-American Claire Hedenskog finish first in both sprint free events while she recorded an NCAA "B" standard in the 100 free (51.08). Junior transfer Petra Banovic grabbed two first-place finishes and ?gnes Kov?cs earned an NCAA "A" time in the 200 breast (2:13.76). The Divers had a very successful afternoon recording five NCAA qualifying scores and one school record. Trisha Tumlinson and Joona Puhakka each won their respective 1- and 3-meter competitions and recorded NCAA qualifying scores in both. Thomas McCrummen also earned an NCAA qualifying score in the 3-meter. Puhakka set a new school mark in the 3-meter (387.90).
