ASU Swimming And Diving Hosts Arizona Saturday

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University swimming and diving (No. 23 men) will play host to intrastate rival Arizona (No. 7 men, No. 6 women) Saturday, Feb. 11 with competition beginning at 1 p.m. MST at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz.

Last season, the women fell to Arizona 165-126 at the meet in Tucson, Ariz. Against the Wildcats, Caitlin Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) won the 100-yard butterfly and came in second place in the 100-yard backstroke in the 2005 meet. Andrew is coming off a great weekend at the FINA Swimming World Cup Series where she medaled in three events giving her the third-highest medal count among American women swimmers at the event.

The men fell to Arizona 172-118 last season, but had strong performances from David Kolozar (Budapest, Hungary) and diver Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland). Kolozar won the 200-yard butterfly and Puhakka captured the title in the 1-meter diving event.

When ASU competes against Arizona Saturday it will be the last regular season meet of the season for the Sun Devils. After that, ASU will compete in the Pac-10 Championships held in Long Beach, Calif. (women's swimming) and Federal Way, Wash. (men's and women's diving, men's swimming).
