This Week -- Almost five months after the season opened at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in a dual meet vs. UNLV, four members of Arizona State's women's swimming team will represent the Sun Devils in six events at the 2001 NCAA Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Long Island, N.Y. Competition begins Thursday, March 15 and continues through Saturday, March 17.
THE EVENTS --
100y Butterfly --
ASU is represented by Sarah Baham and Miranda Shald. Baham has the 23rd-fastest qualifying time at 54.70. Her career-best is an ASU school-record 53.68. Shald has the 50th-fastest qualifying time (out of 51) at 56.09, which is ninth all-time at ASU. The top seed in the event is Stanford's Misty Hyman at 51.83. Hyman is also the NCAA record holder with a time of 51.34, set in 1998.
100y Breaststroke --
ASU is represented by Riley Mants. Mants has the 23rd-fastest qualifying time (out of 33) at 1:02.71. Her career best is 1:02.44, second all-time at ASU. The top seed in the event is Stanford's Tara Kirk at 59.51. Georgia's Kristina Kowal set the NCAA record of 59.05 in 1998.
100y Backstroke --
ASU is represented by Miranda Shald. Shald has the 35th-fastest qualifying time (out of 38) at 55.99. Her qualifying time is also her career best, ranking third all-time at ASU. The top seed in the event is California's Natalie Coughlin at 52.40. Cal's Marylyn Chiang set the NCAA record of 52.36 in 1999.

ASU is represented by Claire Hedenskog. Hedenskog has the 46th-fastest qualifying time (out of 57) at 50.61. Her qualifying time is also her career best, ranking third all-time at ASU. The top seed in the event is Texas' Colleen Lanne at 47.88. Stanford's Jenny Thompson set the NCAA record of 47.61 in 1992.

ASU is represented by Riley Mants. Mants has the 11th-fastest qualifying time (out of 36) at 2:13.41. Her career best is 2:12.47, ranking second all-time at ASU. The top seed in the event is Arizona's Amanda Beard at 2:07.90. Georgia's Kristina Kowal set the NCAA record of 2:07.66 in 1999.
200y Butterfly --
ASU is represented by Sarah Baham. Baham has the eighth-fastest qualifying time (out of 37) at 1:58.80. Her career-best 1:58.22 is an ASU record. The top seed in the event is Stanford's Misty Hyman at 1:55.25. Nevada's Limin Liu set the NCAA record of 1:53.36 in 1999.
THE SWIMMERS --
Sarah Baham --
A junior from Arcadia, Calif., Baham appears on three ASU all-time top-10 lists, including school records in the 100 and 200 fly. At the 2000 NCAA Championships, Baham earned first-team All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 100 fly. Also finished 10th in the 200 fly. At this year's Pac-10 Championships, Baham placed fourth in the 100 fly and eighth in the 200 fly.
Claire Hedenskog --
A sophomore from Lindome, Sweden, Hedenskog has ASU's sixth-best time in the 50 free and the third-best time in the 100 free. At this year's Pac-10 Championships, Hedenskog finished 10th in the 100 free.
Riley Mants --
A junior from Winnipeg, Canada, Mants is fifth on ASU's 200 IM list and runner-up in both the 100 and 200 breast. Best individual NCAA finish was as a freshman in 1999, when she placed fourth in the 200 breast and 11th in the 100 breast. At this year's Pac-10 Championships, Mants took third in the 200 breast and fourth in the 100 breast.
Miranda Shald --
A freshman from Omaha, Neb., Shald has quickly shot up onto ASU's all-time 100 back and 100 fly lists at third and ninth, respectively. At this year's Pac-10 Championships, Shald finished 12th in the 100 back and 18th in the 100 fly.
