The No. 11 Arizona State men’s basketball team fell in the 2023 NCAA Round of 64, 72-70, to the No. 6 TCU Horned Frogs at Ball Arena in Denver Friday night. Sun Devil Men’s Basketball (23-13, 11-9 Pac-12) fought until the buzzer with one of the nations best. ASU took a seven point, 44-37 lead into the halftime break, but fell victim to a late second half drought that saw the Sun Devils go more than five minutes without a bucket. No. 6 TCU (22-12, 9-9 Big 12). DJ Horne paced the Sun Devils in scoring for the 10th time this season, capping a remarkable stretch where he averaged 15 points per game over the final 13 contests. Warren Washington contributed 11 points and eight rebounds while Desmond Cambridge Jr. finished his college career with a 10-point output. Arizona State ends the 2022-23 season with two-ranked wins, 23 total victories and an at-large bid to March Madness.

GAME #35 No. 11 ASU 98, No. 11 NEVADA 73 (MAR. 15/FIRST FOUR, DAYTON)
Sun Devil Men’s Basketball will dance on to Denver after a 98-73 victory in the First Four over the Nevada Wolfpack Arizona State had one of the most historic shooting performances in both program and NCAA Tournament First Four/Opening Round history. It’s 98 points are the most ever in this stage of March Madness and the Maroon and Gold shot its highest percentage - 35-55/.636% - from floor in the eight years that Head Coach Bobby Hurley has piloted Sun Devil Men’s Basketball. After Nevada (22-11, 12-6 Mountain West) made a triple that opened scoring, ASU soared to a 13-0 run. After Jamiya Neal’s three pointer with 12:59 left in the fist half to make it 23-12, ASU’s lead never fell beneath double-digits. The Maroon and Gold put Nevada permanently with a 17-0 run in 6:11 late in the first half. Devan Cambridge hit back-to-back triples followed by a long-range make from Alonzo Gaffney that made it 52-22 with 2:28 remaining in the opening stanza. The Wolfpack’s deficit never shrunk beneath 19 points for the remainder of the contest.

GAME #12: ASU 91, SAN DIEGO 67 (DEC. 18)
Five players scored in double-figures, paced by Desmond Cambridge Jr.'s 23 (18 in the first half), as the Arizona State men's basketball team extended their winning streak to nine in a 91-67 victory over the San Diego Toreros. The Sun Devils used a 16-4 scoring stretch that circumvented halftime to pull away from San Diego after the Toreros had fought off a seven point disadvantage in the first half. ASU then went on a 18-2 stretch that finished with less than five minutes to play in regulation, moving ahead by 20 in the process and snapping any hopes of a San Diego comeback. The five men in double figures marked the first time since Feb. 2, 2020 that five Sun Devils had at least 10 points. Frankie Collins (12 points, 11 assists) and Devan Cambridge (13 points, 11 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles, the second and third of ASU's season. It is the first time Arizona State had two double-doubles in the same game since Dec. 19, 2021 at San Francisco.

With ASU taking body blows in the form of a 16-0 Creighton run early in the second half, he drilled two threes in less than 30 seconds and silenced the Bluejays faithful. The Sun Devils clamped down defensively - Creighton missed seven of their last nine shots in the final five minutes - and earned big baskets down the stretch from Warren Washington, Devan Cambridge and Desmond Cambridge Jr. in the massive win.

ASU fueled a 15-0 run to climb back into the game with the largest deficit being 11 points early in the first half. Once the Sun Devils regained the lead, they would never look back after junior DJ Horne lead the team in scoring with 22 points, followed by Devan Cambridge (13) and Frankie Collins (11) being the other two Sun Devils in double digits. ASU’s defense was as stifling as usual; this marked the fifth time Arizona State has held an opponent under 35% from the floor this season. All 11 of Cambridge Jr.'s points - including the go-ahead basket - came in the second half. Playing without guard Frankie Collins due to a non-COVID related illness, the Sun Devils were led by 18 points from Devan Cambridge who was followed by the 11 points from his brother.
